This remodel was primarily a master suite addition for the clients. They began with a cramped space and wanted to extend the space to create a master suite that felt like a private sanctuary. The addition posed a few challenges including the nearby diagonal lot line that the addition would impend upon. It was also a challenge to maintain privacy in the master suite because of the close-by lot line.
MAK designers started their renovation with a torn out picture of a bathtub from the clients. The inspiration for the whole remodel came from this picture. The designers oriented the master suite toward the garden and provided more room for the clients. The client’s father hand built the cabinets, giving the space a personal, beautiful touch. The master closet was positioned behind the bed and the tub is placed on a platform that gave it a wooden-deck feeling with the durability of tile but the warmth of wood. MAK also designed a tiled shower nook that replicated a concrete shower, as the clients desired. With MAK’s help, the clients now have a master suite that serves as a peaceful respite.
