When you stand in the middle of this beautiful, inviting kitchen, it’s difficult to wrap your brain around the idea that it’s the same Streng kitchen that stood there before. However, we changed very little to the structure or layout of this space. This kitchen is a fine example of how a few strategic changes can make a part of your home isn’t working for you feel like new.
When this family first approached MAK to talk about their kitchen remodel, they were experiencing the same frustrations that many people face with their kitchens. They tripped over each other when they were cooking together, the counters, cabinets and floor were aging and difficult to clean, and the layout (particularly one interestingly placed cabinet), made the space feel cut off from the rest of the house and didn’t allow for sufficient cross-ventilation and lighting.
Together we came up with a design for a kitchen they would be excited to work in. The first change was eliminating the large cabinet which had dominated one end of the room. This created space for a larger island allowing for more seating on one side and a sink on the other. By removing some of the cabinetry to the back wall, we were able to free up even more space to highlight their beautiful new blue tiled wall and sleek appliances. Just beyond the island, the monolithic cabinet was replaced by one wall of additional cabinetry with the refrigerator and a much more comfortable work triangle. The crowning jewel are the three blue pendant lamps, which add a final touch of light to show off this dreamy new space which the homeowners will enjoy for years to come.
MAK firmly believes that a successful remodel depends on good planning and communication from the get-go. From the moment you call about your proposed remodel all the way through its completion, we guide you through the process…. See more
