Space Analysis
One of the most common reasons that clients first contact us is because they’ve been experiencing a growing discomfort with their kitchen. If a kitchen isn’t designed well, it can make your everyday experiences- like making yourself breakfast in the morning or hosting company for dinner- feel like a frustrating struggle.
Having dealt with a similar feeling, these homeowners decided to make their kitchen the primary focus for their remodel. They needed a space where two people could cook simultaneously while others had enough space to comfortably gather and utilize the space efficiently. The current layout, with an awkwardly placed wet bar and insufficient counter and storage space, understandably made them feel cramped and inefficient.
The project came in right on budget and right on time. They were always available to answer questions and help with picking out fixtures/tiles/paint and were quick to resolve any issues. We would highly recommend them.

Customization
To combat these problems, MAK designed a solution with an aesthetic that is best described as “Eco Modern”, featuring clean lines and a variety of natural materials. Eco modernism is a design style that aims to blend the aesthetics of modern design with materials and methods that emphasize sustainability. In this home, we incorporated sustainable elements like a recycling center with environmentally friendly materials and an emphasis on windows and natural light to bring this concept to life.
We continued to work on solving their problems by expanding the layout and modifying the wet bar to improve the sight lines to the dining and entry rooms. We switched out their lower cabinets with more efficient drawers, which eliminated much of the need for upper cabinetry. We also added an island with counter-height seating, an open view of the breakfast nook, and the crowning feature of the kitchen- a wood tabletop that appears to magically float away from the kitchen counter.

New Living
The mahogany tabletop is the perfect culmination of everything we envisioned for this space. It allows those sitting there to engage with the rest of the kitchen space without being underfoot, and maintains clean sight lines to the rest of the living areas. It seems that, like MAK, it’s the perfect blend of form, function, and fun.
