Space Analysis
Some of our most enjoyable projects are the ones that give people the space they’ve always dreamed of to create fun memories in. For this couple, that was a new multi-use space added to the back of their house which they could use for many different parts of life- having friends over for drinks, playing with their grandchildren, relaxing in front of the TV, hanging out by the pool, or even sitting down to pay some bills. The challenge of creating a recreation space is to make something that is functional and aesthetically pleasing beyond a square room with an AV cabinet, and by working with our client to think beyond that, we were able to come up with a uniquely functional and joyful space.

Customization
When you first walk into the addition, you’re faced with a highly customized area- it’s part bar, part wine fridge, and part work station. At the bar, a pull-out beverage center, ice maker, and dishwasher makes entertaining a breeze. The workstation features plenty of cabinet space to hold everything from a sewing machine to wrapping paper. The two areas are separated by a beautiful Douglas fir barn door, which covers whichever area is not currently in use.
The living area is completed with glass display shelves perfect for showing off the clients’ awesome wood carving collection, integrated A/V equipment, tons of storage for games and movies, and a gas fireplace insert. It’s usually scattered with various toys for the homeowner’s grandchildren, who apparently love their new playroom as much as their grandparents do.

New Living
The crowning jewel of this new space is the tongue-in-groove ceiling, adorned by two beautiful pendants (the Vertigo Pendants by Corbette Lighting) over the main area and several smaller blown glass pendants over their vintage mahogany bar.
Equally striking is the massive Panda Door system which allows the space to open up to the outside completely by folding them all back, making it a fun place to hang out in the summer when you’re going in and out of the pool. It’s also very practical for this family as it allows the adults to easily supervise young children around the pool while still enjoying the comforts of the indoors.
