Kitchen

This kitchen is small, but with its new remodel it packs a big punch! This homeowner needed a new floor plan for her small 1920’s house, nestled in Sacramento’s historic Land Park neighborhood. Like many houses from that era, modern appliances didn’t fit with her existing cabinetry. The layout was limited by a small u-shaped kitchen which shared a wall with a laundry/mudroom. Thankfully, she was willing to relocate her washer and dryer to a closet in the hallway. This gave us much more freedom to open up her kitchen and give her some space to cook and entertain.

The new floor plan features a large island with built-in bookshelves, space for a full size range and refrigerator, a large span of pantry size cabinetry, and built-in bench seating with additional storage. New windows and a glass patio door bring some much-needed natural light into the small space. The new laundry area is made easily accessible by a sliding barn door.

This homeowner loves bold colors and patterns, which allowed us to select some really fun materials for her kitchen. The dark navy of the perimeter cabinets are complemented by a lighter grey span of cabinets on the far wall. The patterned backsplash is actually a cement tile by CLE. This was a challenge for our tile installers, but the end result is stunning. A light quartz countertop and a walnut butcher block pair beautifully with the original hardwood floors, which were sanded down, patched where needed, and refinished.
