Space Analysis
This project is an incredible example of how changing a home's layout with the goal of improving the traffic flow can dramatically improve the whole living experience. These homeowners wanted to update their home and create a more open space for entertaining, while still working within the constraints of their exterior walls. Their existing layout was full of long hallways, odd angles, and tight, enclosed spaces. While our new layout was constrained by a budget that meant we couldn’t move the mechanical closet, we managed to come up with a solution that make much more sense.
By relocating the kitchen, reconfiguring the entryway, and creating a mudroom, we were able to create a space that feels much more open and inviting. The new kitchen has plenty of storage, and the hutch and open shelving allow the homeowners to display their wonderful collection of art, books, and family treasures. The hall bathroom kept its original layout but got a total overhaul with fixtures and finishes. The new mudroom features plenty of storage, a new washer and dryer, and an integrated drying rack, which is worlds more enjoyable than the original laundry closet.
In addition to these major updates, we changed out all of the doors and windows in the house, added some functional closet storage in the Master Bedroom, put new carpeting in all the bedrooms, and painted throughout. The end result is a beautiful contemporary space that makes both everyday life and special occasions a beautiful experience.
