The Program

Our client came to us wanting a “zen” kitchen that was equally serene and energy efficient. With Rift White Oak cabinetry, a matte white ceramic tile backsplash, a new skylight to maximize natural light, and flitted accent panels to provide texture this kitchen is now a serene center of the bustling home.

Energy Efficiency

The client approached us with a specific goal in mind: to retrofit their house for improved comfort and energy efficiency. To achieve this, we incorporated solar power and installed remote smart skylights that automatically close during rain and open in response to elevated CO2 levels. To enhance insulation, we took a comprehensive approach, pulling down the entire ceiling and replacing it with higher-density rigid foam. Additionally, we addressed potential health hazards by removing asbestos-containing popcorn ceilings and treating the vaulted ceiling with wood treatments.

Opening Things Up

Beyond energy efficiency, the project aimed to redefine the kitchen and common spaces. The original kitchen was tight, isolated by multiple walls, and lacked the ability for multiple people to work simultaneously. We unified the common areas, creating an open and inviting atmosphere. Flooring throughout the house was upgraded for a cohesive look. The kitchen design focused on functionality, maximizing space and efficiency.
