In this project, the clients wanted to modernize their home while honoring the Streng mid-century modern design. Everything from the fixtures to the finishes were chosen with being true to the period. The home features a bumped-out dining area with custom floor to ceiling windows which give the room plenty of beautiful natural light and continues the Streng concept of inside-outside seamless transitions. The kitchen was outfitted with custom slab Teak cabinetry, and top of the line appliances - increasing the efficiency of the space while maintaining the original footprint. MAK replaced the hardwood flooring with a smooth, charcoal concrete slab floor which runs throughout the living space and the kitchen. We also put an addition on top of the initial addition which increased the space behind the living room and squared off the dining room, granting the home owners access to the back wing of their house from the living room.
The completed project married together the stylized design of the original 1970s Streng with modern finishes that bring a new life to the home!
We love MAK! MAK listened to what we wanted and really got it, delivering truly breathtaking living spaces with a very Midcentry Modern vibe. Ken Kirsch and his team absolutely transformed the kitchen/living/dining rooms in our beloved Streng home. Five stars and a “Standing O“ are really not enough!

This project features so many thoughtful details, many of which are found in the kitchen. Because the homeowners love to cook, it was important to them that the kitchen was not only beautiful but also highly functional. MAK delivered with an updated galley kitchen that features restaurant grade appliances while maintaining the style and comfort of home. Within the island alone are two stacking ovens, a lovey pass through display shelf, and recessed cabinetry under-lighting which ensure that every drawer and countertop is illuminated. The Teak slab door cabinets provide ample storage and are grain matched across both upper and lower cabinets - creating clear, sleek lines throughout the kitchen.
While the kitchen's design honors the traditional Streng look, the brass drawer pulls and custom chalk gunmetal backsplash tiles add a contemporary flair!
