Palm Springs Inspired Poolside Cabana
Project Overview
Stylish Studio Space
The goal for this 200 sq ft. addition was to create a modern structure that could serve as both a focal point in the backyard as well as a designated space for the clients’ two hobbies: sewing and music. The architecture of the detached Studio harmonizes with the main house to make this space feel like a modern addition to the home.
The cabana is now enjoyed as a flex space that can be cleared out and become a perfect spot for gathering and mixing drinks while hosting poolside parties, or in the day-to-day, it is a place for our clients to escape and create beautiful clothing and music. In any case, it has become a generative, beautiful addition to our client's home.

A Year-Round Oasis
The interior of the detached unit is flexible, allowing the space to be used in a variety of ways. Large panes of glass allow the interior to feel immersed in the hardscape and botanicals of the backyard. The large windows and sliding doors allow for the space to seamlessly connect with the outdoors. The windows and doors were strategically placed on the South and East sides of the building to allow natural light while embracing views and avoiding the harsh western sun. Additionally, insulated sheathing over the framing provides an additional thermal break between the interior space and the warm summer climate. The entire space is well insulated and has recessed lighting throughout to also allow for a comfortable place to work or host guests in the dark, cold winter months.
The detached structure was designed to continue the Modern Palm Springs aesthetic of the Main House. Details such as the sleek white acrylic stucco and black windows/doors allow for the detached structure and the main house to coexist harmoniously. At night, the detached unit serves as a statement piece. The bright exterior lighting and expansive glass pans allow the structure to stand out against the natural backdrop.
